King County officials are tallying the votes of this week’s primary. And they also have an update on the new ballot drop box locations they’re using this election season.

Eleven new drop box locations were sprinkled around the county, making for a total of 54.

Kendall Hodson is part of the team that oversees King County Elections. She said the boxes have been doing pretty well.

“We added one in Magnolia that’s been, actually, one of our highest volume boxes,” Hodson said. “So, I think our voters have really appreciated that and they’ve been pretty successful.”

As a whole, Hodson said about 33 percent of the anticipated ballots have been processed county-wide.

She also said as of Wednesday night, the highest turnout rate comes from the 45th Legislative District. That includes cities like Kirkland, Sammamish and Duvall.

“Just as of last night’s results, we have about 31 percent of the count in for that race,” Hodson said.

She said that’s higher than some other locations. Hodson said results for about 60,000 more ballots will come in Thursday night.

Results from the primary election won’t be certified until August 15, but Hodson said by the end of the week there should be a good picture of where things are.

The general election takes place in November.
