We may be fighting wildfires all wrong

Firefighters should rethink how they battle wildfires. 

That's according to environmental journalist Richard Manning who just wrote a piece in Harper's Magazine titled "Combustion Engines."

Manning tells KUOW's Bill Radke why he thinks states are spending way too much money to save too few homes.

And Aaron Schmidt, Fire Operations Chief for the Department of Natural Resources, describes how he trains dozens of National Guard volunteers to help fight wildfires.
