Last year thousands of people hit the streets of Seattle and the nation to march for all things scientific: respect for the scientific method, evidence-based government policies, public funding for research and increased support for STEM education.
This year the crowds fell dramatically, but those who attended the Seattle March For Science 2018 were dedicated and outspoken. Pre-march speeches took place at Call Anderson Park on a chilly, rainy Saturday. The focus this year was on underrepresented voices from the scientific community.
The speakers at the April 14 event included U.S. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Jamie Margolin, Dr. Marco Hatch, Geneva Betnel, Megan O'Reilly, Becky Hinckley, Kaileigh Peterson, Eleanor Valaas, Adriana L. Germano, Timothy Greene, Nick Montoni, Cheri Cornell and emcee Brigit Stadler.
