Set on the boardwalk at Ocean City, New Jersey, Kevin Craft's poem "Matinee" considers the trajectory of his mother's life, and its effect on his own.

Poetry correspondent Elizabeth Austen and Bill Radke discuss the poem, and Craft tells Austen how the feminist wave of the late 1960s and early '70s and the tragic death of his younger brother upended the family, and continue to influence him.

"Matinee" is part of Craft's second collection, "Vagrants & Accidentals," from University of Washington Press.
