Steve Scher talks with Jennifer Stuber, a supporter of the legislationto educate primary care providers on identifying signs of suicidal behavior. Stuber, whose husband killed himself in 2011, believes that training health care professionals could save lives.

“For me, that message of support is around a validation of the pain and desperation that he was feeling and encouraging him," Stuber said. "Trying to say to him: ‘Look, I will stand by you through all of this. This is a really rough journey you’re on. We’re in it together. You’ve got my full attention and I’m here for you no matter what.'”

You can find more information about suicide prevention and proposals to enhance training for primary care providers at Forefront's website. The national suicide prevention lifeline is 1.800.273.TALK (8255).
