The Seattle City Council is considering a proposal that would bring a free, public toilet to Pioneer Square.
Local development company Urban Visions is offering to purchase the so-called “Portland Loo” for the city, in exchange for being allowed to add three stories to its mixed-use building in the neighborhood.
Cleaning, repairs and maintenance for the toilet would be provided by the Pioneer Square Business Improvement Area. In 2004, five self-cleaning toilets were installed in various parts of Seattle. After only a few years, the heavily vandalized toilets were sold off. What does the city expect to be different this time around?
