Sunday night at Century Link Field, Seattle Seahawks fans broke the Guinness World Record for loudest crowd noise at a stadium. Then, they broke the record again. The final reading was an ear-splitting 131.9 decibels.

Enveloped in the thundering boom of the 12th man, the Seahawks dismantled the San Francisco 49ers, 29 to 3. It was a strange game in many ways: it was delayed by an hour due to lightning. And at halftime the score closely resembled a baseball game with the Seahawks leading 5 to 0. But in the end, the Seahawks defense was suffocating, forcing five turnovers against the defending NFC champions.

It was a big weekend for the Seattle Sounders too, who climbed to top of the Western division, after beating Real Salt Lake. Less than a month ago, the Sounders were out of playoff contention. What sparked their turnaround?
