About the KUOW Board

The broadcast license for KUOW was awarded to the University of Washington (“UW”) Board of Regents in 1951. Under an agreement, the station is managed by KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio, a private, non-profit corporation established in 1999 and governed by the PSPR community board of directors.

The PSPR Board of Directors provides fiscal oversight and management of the affairs, property and interests, ensuring the organization meets its goals;  steering the organization towards a sustainable future by providing insight for sound, ethical, governance and financial management practices. The PSPR Board is comprised of between 16 and 21 Directors who serve for three (3) terms, three (3) years each.

All meetings are open to the public and held on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The November meeting is the annual meeting which includes a reception from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Meetings will be held at the Alumni Bldg, 1415 45th Street, 2nd Floor, Fireplace Room, until further notice.

Closed Meetings and Documentation

Meetings of the Board of Directors and Board Committees or portions of those meetings at which matters relating to individual employees, proprietary information, or litigation, or certain other matters requiring the confidential advice of counsel, commercial or financial information obtained from a person on a privileged or confidential basis, or the purchase of property or services whenever the premature exposure of such purchase would compromise the business interests of Puget Sound Public Radio may be closed to the public pursuant to the Communications Act,  47 U.S.C. §396  (k)(4).

An Executive Session can be called at any time during the meeting pursuant to Washington State Law – RCW 42.30.110(1) based on the following criteria: To consider matters relating to individual employees, proprietary information, litigation, and other matters requiring the confidential advice of counsel, commercial or financial information obtained from a person on a privileged or confidential basis, or the purchase of property of services whenever the premature exposure of such purchase would compromise the business interests of any such organizations.

If such meetings or portions of those meetings are closed, the specific reason for closing a meeting or portion of a meeting will be made available at the KUOW station, within 10 days after each closed meeting or closed portion thereof.
