This was taken at John Hay Elementary, Sarah Ruth Gomes says. 'These should have been first day of school pics, but instead it was my daughter's first picket line. She was out supporting her teachers and they were out supporting her.'

Teachers aren’t the only ones on the picket lines during their strike in Seattle. Parents and children are showing support by picking up signs and bringing food to the picketers. 

One parent said of the experience for her second-grader: "It was a wonderful lesson in one of the things that makes America unique! Our right to assemble, our right to stand up for what we believe!"
