Seattle-based poet and human rights activistSusan Rich reads two poems concerning the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
The first is "The Wall" from her 2000 collection "The Cartographer's Tongue," winner of the PEN USA Award for Poetry.
The second is "What We Were Taught / What We Have Lost," written in response to the most recent violence.
Rich teaches at Highline College, and is the author of four full-length poetry collections. Her most recent is "Cloud Pharmacy."
After working for Amnesty International USA, Rich volunteered as a human rights educator in Gaza. As a Fulbright Fellow she researched poetry and human rights in South Africa. She also worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, West Africa.
