Obama Press Corps Gives Love To Seattle Radio

Our radio friends at KEXP and KNDD got some love from the Obama press corps when the president was in town last week.

Jim Brunner, a government reporter at the Seattle Times, was taking notes for local reporters. At 6:39 p.m., Brunner filed a brief report that was later shared by the White House press office. The motorcade had just left the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle, where Obama was fundraising for Sen. Patty Murray.

“The radio in the press van is tuned to KEXP. When the song ‘Where is My Mind?’ by The Pixies came on, a national reporter said pool duty would be so much better if radio stations everywhere were that good.”

We checked the KEXP playlist, which tells us that Dr. Leon Berman was the DJ that night, as he is most Friday nights, spinning his show “Shake the Shack.” His play list doesn’t show the Pixies but rather old school country.

Berman’s personal Facebook page let KEXP fans know that Texan singer Dale Watson was live in studio.

We checked out other play lists at this hour, and it appears they were listening to The End 107.7. Maybe the station changed at some point during their trip? Does it even matter? Combing through playlists we found that Seattleites could hear the Pixies play on any number of our radio stations.

The reporters spent a brief time on this leg of the journey. Seven minutes later, the presidential motorcade arrived at Boeing Field. (No, that’s not a typo.)
