No Room For Husky Helmet Car In New UW Stadium

When University of Washington Football fans attend their first game at the newly revamped Husky Stadium later this month, one thing will be missing — the Husky Helmet Car.

It’s been circling the stadium on the track, carrying pom-pom-waving cheerleaders after each score since 1977. But, the remodeled stadium no longer includes a track.
That’s where the helmet car drove. So, UW Assistant Athletic Director Carter Henderson says the helmet car is being donated to the Museum of History and Industry.

“It’s kind of like when you’ve downsized to a house that you’re really excited about, but then you realize that maybe the piano is not going to fit," he said. "That’s how we’ve been with this beloved helmet car, and we’re really excited that we’ve found a great home for it.”

Carter says the siren that blows every time the Dawgs get on the board will continue. It’ll be up to the fans to come up with a new tradition.

The helmet car will be dedicated in a public ceremony at MOHAI this Thursday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m.
