As spring edges out winter and previously bare tree limbs are suddenly effusive with blossoms, there's a sense that almost anything -- or anyone -- deserves a second chance. In her poem "A Quiet," poet Marjorie Manwaringmeditates on alternative endings and the possibility of redemption.

The poem is part of her new collection, "Search for a Velvet-Lined Cape" released earlier this year by Mayapple Press. You can read the text of the poem at Manwaring's website, mmanwaring.com.

Manwaring is also the author of two poetry chapbooks, "What to Make of a Diminished Thing" (Dancing Girl Press) and "Magic Word" (Pudding House Publications). She is co-editor of the online poetry and art journal the DMQ Review, and serves on the board of Floating Bridge Press. She works as a freelance writer/editor, and lives in Seattle.

Her reading was recorded in the KUOW Studios on March 22, 2013.
