If you were driving through Seattle Sunday you may have noticed the Alaskan Way Viaduct was closed all morning.
Well, closed to cars that is. The bridge was open to bikes.
Thousands of bicyclists got the final ride across the bridge before it closes for good later this year.
Dawn Slack pedaled out with her wife and kids. She said even on an overcast day, it's hard to beat the views from up there.
“It's been nice to pause and look back towards the city and look at the hills and be able to see things from this vantage point,” Slack said.
Bicyclists took over some major roads in the city as part of the Emerald City Ride. It's an annual event, but this was the last year riders got to go onto the viaduct.
Jenny Li said she couldn't pass up the chance to ride out on it.
"I know that the viaduct is structurally unsound and should come down, but it almost seems like a shame. Everybody’s having so much fun being up here and seeing the city view is so special. It really does feel like a once in a lifetime chance to be up here,” she said.
Li was one of the over 7,000 bicyclists that registered for the ride.
The viaduct’s demolition starts later this year and will be replaced by an underground tunnel.
