The city of Seattle has settled a civil rights lawsuit from an activist of Latino descent who says he was unjustly arrested by several Seattle police officers during a rally downtown.
The city will pay Jorge Torres $85,000.
In the lawsuit, attorney James Bible says a Seattle police officer was caught on dashcam audio targeting Jorge Torres by race during a police accountability rally.
Bible says Torres was crossing the street when he was thrown to the ground by a Seattle police officer. Several officers piled on, and Torres was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and pedestrian interference.
The charges was eventually dismissed.
In a statement, Attorney Pete Holmes says the settlement includes attorney’s fees and is in exchange for dismissal of the lawsuit.
Holmes says the city is working to finalize the terms of the deal.
