There are fewer than 10 grizzly bears in the North Cascades, according to government estimates. U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the National Parks Service has a plan to bring them back. There are four possible options with choices range from do nothing at all to capturing bears from surrounding areas and placing them here in Washington.
Bill Radke speaks with PBS Nature host and bear expert Chris Morgan about why he believes grizzly bears should be returned to the North Cascades.
But not everyone who lives near the North Cascades is as excited as Morgan. Radke also speaks with Kevin Ashe about why he opposes bringing the bears back. Ashe is a former logger in the area and now owns the only grocery store in Darrington. He sees the return of grizzlies as a threat.
