When Seattle Police Department officials dug into the data from its first report about marijuana enforcement they found that 80 percent of tickets were issued by one officer.
One apparently very frustrated officer.
In one citation, the officer refers to Washington state's legal pot law as “silly.” He also added at the bottom of the citations, "Attn: Petey Holmes," a snarky reference to Seattle's city attorney, Pete Holmes.
The officer has been reassigned, and The Office of Professional Accountability has been notified, according to a police blotter post written by incoming Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole.
SPD posted the 66 citations on its blotter Thursday. A total 83 citations were issued by all officers.
The 66 citations offer a glimpse into the officer's world view. For example:
"D was sitting on chair in the middle of Westlake Park with his in a clear plastic baggie containing about 3 grams of fresh marijuana. D took some out as we stopped right in front of him. While issuing the citation, D was very vulgar towards us by cussing and calling us “f****s” among other choice names. Also had a rolled marijuana cigarette laying on his coat. D ripped up citation and parks trespass in front of us and threw it in the garbage. D was allowed to keep all his dope per our silly protocol."
The last line of O'Toole's post read, "Please know that officers who perform professional and constitutional police service and enforcement will always have my full support."
